On Tuesday 16th October, the CSI Europe Manchester ULSG met for the first time.  The meeting was held at the Manchester Cathedral Visitors Centre.  Despite high winds and heavy rain, the meeting was well attended by representatives from the public and private sector and included representatives from both the North West UDF (Evergreen) and the Merseyside UDF (Chrysalis).

After an introduction by Paul Evans, which included some background to URBACT and our Network, our lead Expert Des Gardner explained the aims and objectives of the project and provided the LSG members with an overview of our partner cities and common themes found across the network.  We had a lively discussion about how the LSG could support the work of the project and received some very helpful suggestions of areas where the LSG could add value to the work of the project and the network.  A number of LSG members have agreed to work on specific pieces of work ahead of the next meeting.  These included: development of case studies (involving both the UDFs); development of an outline Financial Instrument structure which could help to deliver the city's housing priorities (to be lead by the representative from the national Homes and Communities Agency); and a contribution from the European Investment Bank (EIB) representative, Emily Smith, on how different funding sources could be brought together within a UDF.  The next LSG meeting is scheduled to take place in February 2013.
