Weiz

The City of Weiz with almost 9.300 inhabitants and an area of only 5,07 km² is located in the eastern part of the province of Styria. It is situated at the beginnning of a valley enclosed by the mountains to the north which act as a natural weather divide and protect it against cold winds. In the southern part of this valley one can find the typical east Styria hilly landscape. The valley of the river Weizbach is embedded in this gentle countryside. This excellent scenery contributes to a very nice town located in the middle of a green lung. Weiz is the centre of the district of Weiz and the surrounding region. Regarding the revenues from taxes Weiz is above the average revenues in the Province of Styria. This is due to a very dynamic economy. Furthermore there are many shops and supermarkets and authorities such as the local administration authority for the district of Weiz. In addition to that Weiz has got 12 schools including a grammar school and higher vocation schools for technology, economics and domestic science. 3,000 pupils attend these schools. Many of the pupils and the people who work in the town are commuters from the surrounding region. The general motto of the town is a "City full of Energy" which means that Weiz is regarded as a very dynamic town making many new ideas in all fields of urban life possible.
