BSC Kranj and Gorenjska

The Upper Carniola Statistical Region (Slovene: Gorenjska statistična regija) is a statistical region in northwest Slovenia, bordering Austria and Italy with good infrastructure connections to the neighbouring countries. It is a region with Alpine characteristics, high mountains with over 50 % of NATURA 2000 protected areas, valleys and hills with settlements and vivid economic and farming activity.

Predominant industrial and service economic activities are automotive industry, ICT, robotics, materials. The region has rather good school system, ranging from primary, secondary to higher and faculty level and rather good support programs for SME-s and start-ups.

BSC Kranj is a Regional Development Agency, with over 20 years of experience in preparing and implementing EU funded projects. There are 18 municipalities in the Gorenjska region, among which BSC Kranj holds a central role in combining local and regional needs with funding opportunities. BSC Kranj runs several support schemes, prepare and implement diverse strategies, action plans, programs and projects. BSC Kranj is responsible for regional development of the region (based on the national law for regional development), gives technical support for council of mayors and regional development council and is responsible for preparation and implementation of regional development program and  support in preparation and implementation of programs/projects for diverse stakeholders in the region and beyond.

Being part of the “FOOD CORRIDORS” URBACT network gives BSC Kranj and region Gorenjska  opportunity   to further improve food corridors and address the topic of local value food chains in diverse aspects covered by the FOOD CORRIDORS.

Working with partners  of the URBACT network having the opportunity to explore and gain knowledge connected to food corridors,  will support BSC, local communities in the region to develop  sustainable local food action plan and will contribute to the effective implementation of the food corridors approaches in the future.
