Managing Authority Meeting

15 February 2011The FIN-URB-ACT Managing Authority Meeting took place in Brussels on 9th and 10th February 2011. The topic of the Meeting was: "Cities and Managing Authorities a Pathway to Partnership." The project partners together with the representatives of the Managing authority, thematic experts, representatives from the European Parlament, representatives of the European Commission, representatives of the URBACT Secretariat and further interested actors came together in Brussels to have comommon discussion in open session about above mentioned topic.
On the first meeting day we started with two key not speach presented by URBACT Thematic Expert Pauline Geoghegan and Brigite Nikles representative of the Department for URBAN Affairs, City of Vienna, Austria. The partner cities Aachen, Aveiro, Edinburgh, Galati, Gliwice, Leipzig and Rome presented their successes but also duifficulties abouth the cooperation City - Managing Authority. We saw that during the running project many partner cities where able to involve their Managing Authorities in concret actions to foster the local economic development our found forms of cooperation and mutual agreements. Afterwards key note speaker Wilco van Kalkeren from the Provincie of Gelderland presented how bridges can be built between cities and Managing Authorities. Together with the lead expert patrick Fourguette commod conclusion and recommendations were formulated as a basis for the pannel discussion.
In the second part of the meeting key players from the European Parlament like Sabine Verheyen MEP, Alexander Festl DG REGIO and Jean Loup Drubigny from the URBACT Secretariat together with Managing Authority representatives from the partners cities Aveiro and galati were involved in order to discuss questions on howthe Cities-Manging Authority cooperation can be better institutionalized in the future.
The Managing Authority Meeting serves as a platform to present and exchange the experience abouth the achivemed tandems between Cities and Managing Authorities and the results were commonly discusses with representatives from the European parlament and European Commission and should serve as a common reflection on the discussion for the future cohesion policy.
On the 10th of February we had a steering group meeting on financial and editorial issue.
