The initiative of organizing international workshops concerning the temporary space arrangement in the area of the Łódź Fabryczna multimodal hub arose during the works of Local Support Group.

The international student workshops took place on 7 and 8 May 2014. They were organized in cooperation with the Technical University of Lodz due to the fact that the University’s Institute of Architecture and City Planning is a longstanding member of REA (a network of French and east/central European architectural schools).

The workshops’ detailed scope has been defined in strict cooperation with the City’s Architect’s Bureau and also with the Board of New Centre of Łódź.The workshop lasted 24 hours and focused on temporary public space arrangement around the old EC1 power plant, the City Gate, and the multimodal hub including Łódź Fabryczna railway station.

The work of every workshop team was supported by one student from the mentioned Institute of Architecture and City Planning and all participants were accompanied by local tutors (including Local Support Group members) so that the basic assistance regarding the language, working conditions and important local issues and conditions were provided.

As a result of the workshops six interesting concepts have been worked out, each of them providing a fresh outer look into the New Centre of Łódź urban issues. The workshops enabled to gather numerous theoretical and practical specialists both from REA network and the city of Lodz including ENTER.HUB project’s Local Support Group members, who all shared knowledge and experiences in city revitalization problems and important urban issues concerning public space arrangement in the area of multimodal hubs.
