The General data of the municipality are:

• Location: Region of Thessaly - Prefecture of Trikala - Central Greece.
• Population: 13.400 inhabitants. The proportion of the youth people is yet in a good level. While a great number of the local origin people is emigrants abroad, a significant number of immigrants of other less developed countries lives in the area.
• Settlements: the municipality lies in an area with a total extend 370 km2, and is consisted of: 2 small towns with a population about 2.000 inhabitants, and 16 villages with a population from 200 to 1.000 inhabitants. The distances between the settlements are from 5 to 20 km.
• Natural environment: the area has some low mountains with pastures, extended fertile plains with cultivations, some small forests and several rivers, among them one of the biggest in Greece.
• Historical and Cultural Heritage: important historical and cultural wealth: settlements of several ancient periods, Byzantine Monasteries/Churches, Castle, Bridge, Outposts. In addition, several traditional festivals and customs.
• Economy: is based mainly on modern agriculture and traditional livestock farming (which are important), on the trade and some industries.
The municipality vision in regards to become a Healthy City includes:
• The improvement of the real or of the virtual connection between the settlements and between the settlements and the medical centres in order to overcome the isolation of some areas.
• The sustainable mobility actions which have a great amount of positive impact to the Public Health and Well Being.
• The exploitation of the reach tangible and intangible elements of the cultural heritage of the area with the purpose of the Mental Health improvement through Culture.
• The providing of quality social care services to the citizens, in local / municipal level.
• The public awareness raising and the illnesses prevention actions, like informative campaigns over health, social, environmental, etc. issues, physical activity and athletic events.
• The improvement of the features of integration, coherence, democratic engagement and active citizenship.
