Falerna
The city has an ancient History, as studies show traces of civilization that date back to 1500 BC. The presence of the Romans, later on is evidenced by the remains of a villa, from the 2nd century AD. The foundations of the city as it is today date back to the seventeenth century, when the city was rebuilt on the initiative of the D’Aquino, princes of Castiglione Maritime.
The mountainous area extends from the summit of Mount Mancuso with its 1,200 meters altitude, into the historic center which is located at 550 meters altitude, from which you can enjoy an enchanting view of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The hilly area covers the historic center to Castiglione, a small ancient village rich in history and tradition, located at 160 meters altitude. Finally, the flatter area is included from Castiglione to Falerna Marina. Falerna Marina, being on the Tyrrhenian coast, is the most developed area of the territory thanks to the splendid crystalline sea and the marvelous promenade that in summer opens its doors to hundreds of tourists.
In the framework of URBACT "HEALTHY CITIES", Falerna's activities focus on a socio-ecological approach to promote health, aiming to develop programs capable of providing answers to people's needs. The main objective is the strategic development of a cooperative framework between the world of sport, volunteering and active citizenship in general in order to trigger positive processes: social inclusion, inter-culturality and anti-racism.
