URBACT Markets Romanian partner Suceava has unveiled a new strategic development plan for its markets network for the period up to 20125. The mayor of Suceava, Ion Lungu, wants his city to replicate Barcelona's local markets network.

After extensive local support group consultation, the city of Suceava has announed an ambitious strategic plan for its local markets, part of an EU wide process aimed at developing cities through markets.

A 20-strong local Suceava support stakeholder group has been working on a new strategic plan to develop city markets to improve the local economy, its sustainability and tourism pull.

The move was announced at a media press conference held last September by the mayor, who promised to put markets at the centre of local community action.
