#Time to Share! Ireland's Transfer Networks Sharing Event
It's time to share! On April 29th the Irish partners on the Playful Paradigm and Volunteering Cities will share their experiences on these networks. We'll get to hear about their networks, their impact in Ireland and the benefits that being on an URBACT network has brought to their cities!
We'll also hear about the future of the URBACT Programme.
We're in the sharing period for our URBACT Transfer Networks (#Time to Share!), and it's time to hear from the Irish partners of Transfer Networks!
We'll hear how Cork City has become more playful as part of the Playful Paradigm network, and how Athy has used volunteering to tackle social exclusion and poverty as part of the Volunteering Cities network.
Play is our brains favourite way of learning. The Playful Paradigm is an opportunity incorporate small and large scale actions and influence policy in cities and towns to develop a culture of play. The Playful Paradigm provides a structure and framework for playful actions and playful placemaking to foster an appreciation of natural spaces and built places, health and social inclusion.
Cork has implemented a wide array of Playful Paradigm learnings, including creating play sections in its libraries, creating Playful Streets (discouraging traffic from using the road during specific times to allow play) and School Streets (designating areas outside schools to be entirely traffic free for 30 minutes before school starts) andincorporating play into existing festivals and events.
Volunteering Cities aims to promote structured and intergenerational volunteering as leverage to improve social inclusion, to fight poverty and raise better levels of citizens’ quality of life in a more cohesive society.
Athy has mobilised its intergenerational volunteering networks to address a range of issues present in the town. These include town clean-ups, supporting the emergency services and particularly in combating social isolation of their elderly citizens cooconing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
