Viladecans

Viladecans is a city with more than 67,000 residents located 15 km from Barcelona and around 6 km from the airport. It is a young, dynamic, non-conformist city whose essence is its people. Thanks to an entrepreneurial mindset, it is a city that keeps improving day after day, one that believes in its future and therefore focuses on its young people.

The city of Viladecans is effectively a suburb of Barcelona, lying south of the Catalonian capital on the coast. With a large variety of geographic areas, from the beach to the mountain, through protected natural areas and agrarian lands. Our restless spirit and focus on the city’s progress have led the City Council to focus its actions on fostering and consolidating a variety of educational innovation projects in order to help boost the city’s educational success.

In Viladecans, we work constantly to encourage the educational success of our youngsters. In recent years, this commitment has led us to become one of the first municipalities in Spain to digitalise all its public primary school classrooms; to promote the arrival of fibre optic in households and companies in order to foster the exchange of knowledge; to get the entire local community involved in an Educational Innovation Network; to bring education beyond schools and into the street, with information projects like the one on astronomy on Carrer del Sol; and to design a new library which is a benchmark in popular science and educational innovation; to participate in European projects in the educational field such as IMAILE, LEA or ON BOARD.

We are proud of our Educational Innovation Network (EIN), a space where innovative projects using the new technologies can be spearheaded in classrooms in a collaborative fashion, bearing in mind all the stakeholders involved in the educational community: teachers, students, families and companies.
