Skanderborg

Skanderborg with a population of more than 57.000 (January 1st 2009) is a town in central Denmark just south of Aarhus. It is more or less a suburb today, located in Skanderborg municipality, Jutland.  The municipality is also a part of the East Jutland metropolitan area with 1.2 million inhabitants. The town has two churches; one of which used to be part of Skanderborg castle, the traditional hunting retreat of Danish kings from the 12th-16th centuries. Since 1980, the Skanderborg Festival, an annual music festival has been held in a forest in the vicinity of Skanderborg. It is known as "Denmark's Most Beautiful Festival".
