Dublin to revamp Victorian market
Edited on
04 February 2015Dublin City Council have edited a virtual reality video to show what the future fruit and vegetable market will look like.
Dublin will redevelop its Victorian fruit and vegetable market as a continental-style food market which will open in the summer of 2015, after a €3 million construction project.
The building, built in 1892 and listed on the Record of Protected Structures, has 6,000sq m of internal space, with wholesale and retail areas. The new market will have a unifying market theme, similar to the London Borough Market. Other proposed works include outdoor café and an eye catching entrance to a new retail food market.
The retail food market should boost local commerce and retail drawing people into the area. The surrounding public spaces are to be renovated too with new lighting and planting enhancing the area significantly.
