Torino celebrates International Week of Markets

14 February 2017The Italian city organised a special cinema festival in its central farmers' market
The City of Torino took part in the International Week of Markets and the Love Your Local Market (#LYLM) initiative with a highly-successful event called "Cinema al Mercato", a cinema festival held last 8 and 9 May under the roof of the Porta Palazzo farmers' market.
The event was organized by the City of Torino and the Conservatoria delle Cucine Mediterranee in the framework of the CENTRAL MARKETS project, in collaboration with the URBACT Markets project.
The celebration included four movies featuring markets, with free entrance for the audience and the organization of side events dedicated to food and markets products.
On May 9th there was a food tasting event offered by the Conservatoria delle Cucine Mediterranee in collaboration with the Chefs of Torino Association.
The event was a huge success, with hundreds of people both nights, especially highlighting the social and cultural role of markets.
The City of Torino, represented by Domenico Mangone, Deputy Mayor for Commerce and Economic Activities, also signed the Manifesto for the Joint Celebration of the International Day of Markets.
