Nyíregyháza
The history of the town goes back to the 13th century and its public administration has been established more than 200 years ago.
At present Nyíregyháza is the seat of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Government and one of the most important towns of the North Great Plain Region.
Nyíregyháza is the sixth largest city in Hungary with 119.000 inhabitants. It is a dynamically developing town which constitutes an integral unit with the neighbouring settlements in the field of economy and society.
The presence of Roma settlements, typically characterised by flats in bad physical conditions and without any comfort, is a problem for Nyíregyháza to which an integrated approach is necessary for arresting disintegration and facilitating social integration.
The Huszár housing estate is one of the areas where these problems exist. Its population in working age has a low level of employment (29%) and a high level of unemployment. 57% of the persons in working age are economically inactive (on disability pension, being granted a child-care allowance, on regular social welfare or in another supported status.)
