The Union of Bassa Romagna Municipalities is located in the heart of the Province of Ravenna, between the Adriatic Sea and the Romagna hills, in the north-eastern part of Italy. With a population of more than 100 thousand inhabitants, it associates 9 Municipalities: Alfonsine, Bagnacavallo, Bagnara di Romagna, Conselice, Cotignola, Fusignano, Lugo, Massa Lombarda and Sant'Agata sul Santerno. Agri-food potentialities, manufacturing industry, a well-developed logistics system, commercial vocation are its main economic features. Bassa Romagna is also known as the land of "fine living", a land on a human scale.

A rich and orderly countryside, the presence of important natural reserve sites, historical city centers together with more recent towns, rising in a landscape marked by waterways and dotted with parish churches, oratories, country houses, farmhouses, fortresses and noble palaces, are the main reasons why Bassa Romagna is also known as the land of "fine living", a land on a human scale, to be walked or biked in order to enjoy rare environmental jewels and discover authentic art treasures.

A wide offer of educational, social and health services and the good balance among the nine main towns, that results in a sustainable territory able to avoid urban congestion phenomena, together with the importance of historical and artistic traditions, a marked cultural vitality and quality and traditional products are key elements.

Since the Union of Bassa Romagna Municipalities has been established, sustainable development is one of the main concerns for its administration. The Union has launched a permanent working group for a common commitment to support and implement Sustainable Energy Action Plans with the main actors of the territory.

As local public authority, it is more and more important to ensure a sustainable growth of  the agri-food sector and to keep attractiveness of the area, by also attracting innovation and research from outside, but without forgetting attention for the environment (water use and re-use, waste, transportation, etc.). The idea is to foster a 0 km chain, and at the same time attracting research labs and start-ups.

Bassa Romagna interest in food is at 360° and strongly inter-connected with other topics, such as environment, tourism, ITs, social inclusion, etc.
