Last 18th July, London markets stakeholders got together on the occasion of the first London Local Support Group (LSG) meeting organised by Cross River Partnership.

Participants, which included representatives from the central London local authorities, businesses and market managing organisations, as well as URBACT Markets lead expert and lead partner from Barcelona, discussed a wide range of topics among which the role of markets as drivers for the local economy, issues around public and private management of markets and related legislation, relationship with traders and sustainability matters.

In addition to confirming their common interests in markets and discussing the challenges that central London markets face, London LSG members had the opportunity to hear about the Barcelona experience and as such got an early insight of what URBACT projects are about: sharing, exchanging on and learning from other European cities’ good practices.

URBACT Markets lead expert and lead partner representative also had the opportunity to visit Brixton street and covered Markets in Lambeth, which were recently transformed into one of the most sought out trading destinations in London.
