Jobtown partners met in Avilés on June 2013

09 February 2015Jobtown First Transnational Thematic Workshop &Second Steering Group meeting was held on June 18th, 19th and 20th in Avilés (Spain).
Three months after Jobtown Implementation Phases Kick-Off Meeting, hosted in March 18th in Cesena, all the partners met in the Spanish town and discussed and supported each other in the definition of effective models of cooperation at local level with the aim of enhancing youth employment.
On the 18th June, after an initial greeting by Pila Varela, Mayor of Avilés, and Matteo Marchi, Councillor of Cesena, team activities were introduced by Ian Goldring, Lead Expert of the project. Ms Lucy Pyne, OECD-LEED programme representative, took also part as external expert. Nadine Schraeder-Boelsche (University of Kaiserslautern) explained the importance of cooperation at different levels, success and failure factors for effective partnerships. Councillors Del Goddard (London borough of Enfield) and Andy Smith (Thrrock Council) shared their own experiences and current practice of local initiatives for youth employment in the United Kingdom.
In the afternoon, the meeting continued with the presentation of Avilés local initiatives: Avilés is notable for putting significant emphasis on working through approaches based on cooperation and consultation. In fact it has pursued a series of wide-ranging Pacts with local actors and institutions that is the vertebra of its local development and employment strategy.
On the 19th June, the day started with the site visit to the opening session of “Connect 4X4 Networking”, an initiative driven by a local Foundation of Young Entrepreneurs, bringing together more than 200 companies and businessmen, Career specialists with the objective of promoting job creation. In the afternoon the meeting carried on with clustered workshop sessions and practical exercises based on peer evaluation and draft strategies.
The last day of the meeting, on the 20th June, was entirely dedicated to the Steering Group in which only Jobtown coordinators participated. It was held in La Curtidora, a business incubator managed by a private company and owned by the Municipality. On that occasion, it was presented the online Mutual Help Desk: a platform in which all partners involved in the project will be able to continue learning, providing and receiving feedbacks from peers and participating in discussions with them in sharing documents.
The next and second Jobtown meeting will be held on October 16th and 17th, in Kaiserslautern (Germany) with a focus on making education and vocational education and training responsive to the needs of the labour market.
