Gävle
Gävle is the growth engine and logistics hub for central Sweden, with the largest container port of the east coast of Sweden, and a world-class infrastructure of fiber, broadband and sustainable energy. Gävle is growing and public as well as private investments are made to expand the railway infrastructure, double the port’s capacity, develop large-scale fossil-free data centers and build one of Europe’s most sutainable districts with thousands of new homes as well as companies and services.
Gävle’s diverse economy includes international companies, national and local business clusters, which are supported by the University of Gävle, access to Sweden’s largest labour market, and a large public sector including the County Administrative Board and the Swedish National Land Survey.
The University of Gävle, with 16 000 students, specialises in advancing research in Sustainable Urban Development, Health-Promoting Work, Innovative Learning and Intelligent Industry
After a major fire in 1869 the city was rebuilt on a grid plan with wide avenues enabling the development of a modern green city - one of Sweden´s most sustainable municipalities, with the goal to become climate neutral by 2035. Gävle is proud of its flourishing cultural life and offers a wide range of leisure and sports activities.
