Conclusion of 6 URBACT projects: Final publications now available !

Six URBACT projects have just completed their programme of exchange and learning activities. The project partners have been working relentlessly for two years looking for joint, effective and sustainable solutions to major urban challenges: innovative governance and cross-border cooperation between cities, design coding and housing development, metropolitan governance and competitiveness, land use management and  urban renewal and regional spatial planning. These projects have published their final publications bringing to light solutions that have proven effective and providing valuable support for policy makers and practitioners involved in tackling these challenges. Here is a look at their final results and outputs!

For each project, a fact sheet is available allowing us to have an immediate overview of the challenges faced by each project, their conclusions and recommendations as well as the concrete solutions developed by project partners.

"Joining Forces: Metropolitan Governance and Competitiveness of European Cities

Joining Forces is an URBACT project made up of 8 European partners (Lille Metroplole, Burgas, Brno, Brussels-Capital region, Eindhoven, Florence, Krakow, Seville) that have worked for two years to explore how strategy-making and governance arrangements at the city-region level can help to effectively address the main challenges faced by urban Europe: competitiveness, cohesion and sustainability. Joining Forces has worked on the basis of practical examples (case studies) and have considered the theme of metropolitan governance through its different important aspects : Strategic and Spatial Planning, Mobility management and Transport, Main environmental issues (air and noise pollution, waste disposal, water supply), Knowledge economy (Creativity, Research & Education), Private sector involvement in metropolitan Governance (public/private arrangements), Social inclusion, participation and empowerment, Attractiveness & competitiveness (including Promotion / Marketing).

After  two years of  exchange and learning activities, Joining Forces has produced different surveys and reports regarding its project results:



"Nodus: Linking renewal and regional spatial planningNodus is an URBACT project made up of 7 European partners (Generalitat de Catalunya, Region of Emilia-Romagna, Region of Mazovia, City of Katowice, City of Amsterdam, City of Alba Iulia, City of Dobrich) that have worked for two years on the external integration of area based policies, concentrating on the links between supra-local level planning, governance and local area-based urban regeneration. The project aim was to improve the coordination between the planning and policy-making activities in order to achieve more balanced urban development. The topic of Nodus is interesting in the perspective of multi-level governance, as well as regarding the regeneration of deprived urban areas.
