The City of Catania is the center of the largest conurbation in Sicily, known as "linear system of eastern Sicily" It is divided into a coastal conurbation, focused around the metropolitan area of Catania, the main demographic and functional pole. It is one of the 15 Italian metropolitan city. The urban area extends far beyond municipal, and has a population of about 300,000 residents, while predisposition, the metropolitan area has a population of about 700,000, it is the most populous city in Sicily.Founded in 729 BC Greeks from Chalcis, has a long history characterized by several rulers whose remains today enrich the artistic, architectural and cultural heritage. It is located on the east coast, at the foot of Mount Etna (the highest in Europe) where there is a 'protected area: the Etna Park, that is another UNESCO site.Its territory includes a large portion of the plain of Catania one of the largest growing areas of Sicily, whose area closest to the sea is the Simeto Oasis nature reserve of 2,000 hectares which takes its name from the river Simeto, the river which flows south of the city. Not far from there, in the industrial area Catania host the the Etna Valley, where are located relevant high-tech offices.From the Prevent perspective, the town is very interesting as experimental laboratory on prevention of early school leavers, becuase of its complex nature of city that got a variable geometry, both on the geomorphological meaning and on the sociological one, with several topics to manage, from young deviant behaviour to immigrant policies, from difficulties in absorbing new jobs to the need of innovation and transformation.

The project of the municipality of Catania is designed to accompany the process of re-organization of the urban system, transforming it from a chaotic conurbation into a metropolitan system, creating a network of the Municipal Territorial Centres in synergy with school’s policies. The aim is to strengthen them and "equipping" in order to realize on the mainland a real "physical and virtual network" of family services and citizens (non-EU, elderly, disabled, young, drop-out). The project aims to help overcome the social services sector practice working largely driven by demand and its emergence, the center-periphery dichotomy that currently characterizes the organization of the network of social services and social health and result of this, the problems of accessibility to information, partial knowledge of local resources, services and benefits by the employees and as a result, even by the most fragile citizens.
The methods and equipment info more advanced telemathics help to develop an integrated software capabilities to support the operations of all the offices of Social Services, ensuring centrality to regional branches.
It 's expected the development of an integrated system of software features intended to support the operations of all the offices of Social Services for the administration of procedures for access to social services, social and health for the local collection of data and instances and to the accompaniment of professional interventions of social work to the citizens and institutions Managers of services, as well as in the creation of databases designed to ensure the interoperability and integration of digital archives on population assistance and sharing the same with other branches of the municipal administration and / or other institutions. The staff will be joined by experts in the project in order to reconsider the practice daily consolidated directing the simplification of work processes, streamlining of relations with users, the administrative burden of the offices through the valuable contribution of procedures and tools.
