"The prize-giving ceremony for "RegioStars" took place Monday February 16, 2009 at the Centre for Fine Arts (Bozar) in Brussels as part of the "Regions for Economic Change" conference. Awards were given to the most effective and innovative regional projects in economic terms, realised with the help of funds from Cohesion Policy."

" A jury chaired by Danuta Hübner, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, and Mr Job Cohen, Mayor of Amsterdam, and made up of renowned professionals in regional development perused the submissions made by the various regions. All 271 regions of the European Union were invited to submit projects co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the period 2000-2006. Réunion (France), Wallonia (Belgium), Wales (UK), North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) and Greece have been decorated for their efforts. Their projects will henceforth serve as beacons for the rest of Europe. Commissioner Hübner emphasized during the prize-giving ceremony that "Stimulating Europe's competitiveness and employment, particularly in this difficult economic climate, calls for new ideas and progressive thinking. The innovative projects under the spotlight today, provide a clear demonstration of how Cohesion Policy can make a difference and provide inspiration to other European regions." Read more:
