Vaulx-En-Velin

Vaulx-en-Velin, with 40,000 inhabitants, is one of the municipalities forming Grand Lyon (with 1,300,000 inhabitants). The city has one of the lowest per capita income rates in France and a high rate of unemployment. The geographical position between Lyon centre and the airport and a high quality of its natural space create opportunities for Vaulx-en-Velin's future development. Today the regeneration^of Vaulx-en-Velin includes the complete restructuring of the town centre together with urban regeneration of a number of neighbourhoods, with acombination of community involvement and neighbourhood management.

The CoNet Local Support Group developes better governance among the local stakeholders in charge of economy, education and professional inclusion issues through the sharing of diagnosis, strategies and objectives and by integrating inhabitants.

The project is focussed on an area under the involvement of the Urban Contract for Social Cohesion, more particulary in the southern part of the city in the neighbourhood called "la Cote", an area dominated by small houses and large housing estates built in the 1920s.
