Dr. Steffen Wetzstein is an international Urban Thinker and Change Facilitator. Combining well-developed conceptual, project management, communication and interpersonal skills, he seeks to provide intellectual, institutional and relational leadership to cities, organisations and networks. While his heart beats for innovative academic research, teaching, supervision and mentoring, he is equally passionate about productively framing and developing urban/regional policy, analysis, agenda-setting and commentary. Steffen draws on more than 25 years of professional experience in academic, policy and private sectors across Germany, Australia and New Zealand. He is a critical and creative Human Geographer, Political Economist and Qualitative Social Scientist with wide-ranging research, teaching and consultancy interests relating to urban transformations, affordable housing and planning, urban liveability, economic development, governance reform, urban branding and policy transfer in a globalising world. Current professional foci: expert-leading a 10-city pan-European URBACT network seeking to mobilise corporate social responsibility for better urban outcomes, and publishing/communicating the results of 5 years of international comparative research on one of the greatest urban challenges of our time: affordable housing provision.
