Find out the latest progress towards the next generation of the URBACT programme.

This year will mark the start of the fourth generation of URBACT – the European Territorial Cooperation Programme for towns and cities.

The URBACT IV programme will provide both continued and new opportunities for even more towns and cities to become more just, more green and more productive – delivering on the vision of the New Leipzig Charter for sustainable urban development.

Following the work of the URBACT IV Programming Committee – comprised principally of EU Member States – the text of the URBACT IV Cooperation Programme has now been submitted to the European Commission for consultation. The next steps are as follows:

1. Internal consultation on the content of the programme within the European Commission – known as an interservice consultation between the different Directorates General (DGs);

2. Revisions by the Managing Authority based on European Commission (EC) feedback and Member State approval;

3. Final submission to the European Commission for adoption;

4. First URBACT IV Monitoring Committee meeting.

This process is expected to take 6-9 months in total, with the launch of the first URBACT IV call likely in Autumn 2022.

As soon as the details are confirmed, we will let you know everything you need to know about the new programme – including its continued opportunities for networks of cities to work together on themes of common interest and a reinforced focus on greening, gender and transfer of innovation.

In the meantime, do save the date for the 2022 URBACT City Festival which will take place in Paris, 14-16 June 2022. This will be a key moment to learn more about the future programme and start to build your partnership towards your first URBACT network under the new programme!
