URBACT’s Good Practices unveiled: “Inspiring solutions for better cities”

12 January 2018Looking for ideas on how to improve a city’s air quality, support local jobs, or involve citizens in accommodating refugees? Scores of tried-and-tested city solutions have been published online by URBACT, the EU learning and exchange programme for integrated, sustainable urban development.
The “URBACT Good Practice” website opens a doorway to some of the most practical solutions cities are using every day to tackle challenges such as demographic change, climate and environmental targets, unemployment and urban poverty. It groups 97 newly certified URBACT Good Practices in 25 European countries.
“One of the key selection criteria for URBACT’s Good Practices is that they can be picked up and transferred elsewhere. So it’s really encouraging to see them now online, colourful and easily accessible, inspiring solutions for better cities,” says Adele Bucella, Head of Projects and Programming at the URBACT secretariat in Paris.
Urban practitioners, elected officials, researchers and residents will find ideas for projects of all sizes to improve their cities. The array of overlapping themes includes job creation, social inclusion, waste reduction, and involving citizens in improving their own local areas.
The new online platform is a chance for the cities receiving the URBACT Good Practice label to gain international recognition, and connect with, and learn from, other cities. This opportunity to learn from peers, and adapt and reuse tried and tested practices without reinventing the wheel is particularly valuable when resources are scarce.
The Good Practices are easy to browse using keywords, or can be filtered by theme, topic, city size and country.
