B.1. Understanding of integrated and sustainable urban development:
I obtained an University degree in Economics, at University of Trieste, with a thesis on transport economics, and a Ph.D. degree in “Transport and Environment”. As an associate professor (Università degli Studi di Trieste), in the Department of Architecture and Urban Design, and subsequently in Economics, I have taught subjects ranging from Urban and Regional Economics to the Socioeconomic Evaluation of Urban Design, Transport Economics and Economic Cooperation, coming into contact with the most crucial issues of sustainable urban development. Besides my teaching and research activities, I have been involved in teamwork with professionals on urban development projects. I have worked, in particular, on various plans for port development and relations between cities and ports. With specific reference to urban planning and sustainable mobility, I have participated in studies for the transport plans of different Italian regions and for the Italian national transport and logistics plan. As a member of the Board of Directors of Trieste Trasporti (urban public transport company) I have addressed the issues of public urban transport. As part of the URBACT program I have gained experience at the European level in actions for sustainable local development, as “Lead Expert” for two thematic networks. My recent appointment as an advisor on integrated policies for public transport for the Oman’s Transport Ministry has given me a further opportunity to deepen my knowledge of urban contexts
B.2. Understanding of exchange and learning processes at transnational level:
In 2000, I worked in a project of the “City Twinning” Program (Italian city of Trieste and the Ukrainian city of Nikolajev), coordinating field work in the Ukraine. 2005 I worked with University of Trieste in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a coordinator of joint urban reconstruction project for the city of Prusac, destroyed in the Balkan war. In 2007 I took part in Uruguay (Montevideo) in an international cooperation program addressed to the senior management of the transport ministries of MERCOUSR countries for a transfer of knowledge on European Union’s transport legislation and regulation. I have organized and managed the transnational exchange and planning-workshop event “Sarajevo City”, which involved administrators and stakeholders of the cities of Sarajevo and Trieste. I direct a year-long transnational post-graduate course on logistics, in collaboration with the Universities of Trieste (I), Rijeka (HR) and Sarajevo (BiH), under the UNIADRION program. I have worked as Lead Expert of the URBACT program in the two URBACT thematic networks (CTUR and UseAct). I have taught abroad as a visting professor (Spain, Turkey, Bosnia Herzegovina). In 2015, I held a position as group coordinator of the Italy/Albania Intermodadria project, working on the co-planning of an observatory of freight transport to Albania, for promoting sustainable transport and provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Transport of Oman on Public Transport development policy.
B.3. Proficiency in English:
My ongoing research work on English language texts, with the need to write articles and texts in English for publications and international projects, has enabled me to develop a good level of written English, with the publication of all the documentation. In addition, all my international activities, including those mentioned in B2, have been carried out in English. In 2014/2015 my main job in Oman was conducted in English.
