Seeing more of East Birmingham
Edited on
09 March 2022We’ve focused a lot over the past few months on our USE-IT partner cities of Poznan, Rotterdam and Trapani. While this is good news, a big part of USE-IT is also East Birmingham. After all, the aim of the whole project is to transfer what we learned in West Birmingham over to East Birmingham.
That’s also great news; though we keep getting asked a similar question by many people. What actually is there in East Birmingham? Our answer is, ’there is a lot’ – and we need to promote this to a wider audience.
There are two parts to this question about What is in East Birmingham? The first is that people from one part of East Birmingham aren’t always sure about what exists in another part of the area. I was at an event a few weeks ago, when a lady from Sheldon, asked where Alum Rock was and what was there?
The second aspect to this, is that when speaking with people from outside East Birmingham, quite often you get a blank look when talking about areas like Stechford, Lea Hall, Shard End, Bordesley Green and even Small Heath (even though its on the main A45 Coventry Road). Generally, most people tend to know about the Airport and there must also be a lot of shoppers around, because many people nod their head and seem to know about Stechford Retail Park. Apart from that, it’s all a bit of a blur.
It seems a shame that this is the case, as there’s so many interesting parts to East Birmingham waiting to be explored. There’s a great community, very diverse areas, fantastic local businesses and interesting buildings – to name just a few things. Rather than write all these down in a big long list – every day from today, we’ll be uploading a photo to show a different part/feature of East Birmingham. This will be on our Twitter Feed, that can be accessed via the following link: https://twitter.com/UseItUIA @UseItUIA.
