In 2013, URBACT has launched a National Training Scheme in national languages to help members of URBACT Local Support Groups with the practical skills needed for participative planning at local level. Available to the 15 projects created under the third URBACT Call for proposals, the training seminars are an opportunity to learn more about the URBACT Programme's methodology and how it can be applied to solving problems of urban development. Following the success of the spring round of seminars, the second seminars will take place in November. Learn more about this new URBACT capacity building initiative.

When joining an URBACT project, each partner city commits to produce a Local Action Plan (LAP). This concrete and operational output shall address the problems identified by the city partner at the beginning of the project and draw on the results of the transnational exchange and learning activities implemented by partners over the life of the project.

These Local Action Plans should also be developed through participative processes, involving the stakeholders concerned by the policy challenge addressed by the partner city. For this purpose, partners are expected to set up and run an URBACT Local Support Group (ULSG), led by a Local Support Group Coordinator, gathering stakeholders for the co-production of integrated action plans.

Through the URBACT Local Support Group and Local Action Plan dynamics, the URBACT Programme aims to maximize the impact of the transnational exchange and learning on local practices and policies.

The National Training Scheme for ULSG has several objectives, with the starting point being to provide a deeper understanding of the URBACT method and how to develop a participatory approach that includes all the relevant stakeholders. The training also aims to provide a broad set of skills that will help coordinators and key members to run their activities efficiently throughout the life of the project. Enabling them to exchange ideas and to share experiences with their peers is a further objective, as is developing their ability to engage with their project's Managing Authorities.

The seminars form part of a broader URBACT training initiative to support its beneficiaries and to help them deliver better results during the course of 2013 and beyond. The National Training Scheme for Local Support Groups will complement the Training Seminars for Elected Representatives, which began with the first session in April in Brussels. Two further sessions will be held towards the end of the year.

Please find here the list of the training seminars including dates and venue. This page will be regularly updated with new information.
