Satu Mare
Satu Mare faces economic, infrastructural, social and environmental challenges as well as a population decline which is a consequence of the emigration of young people to Western countries or to more developed cities in Romania. However, the area that needs special attention is the physical one. Satu Mare has 19th century buildings, as well as blocks from the 1930s et 1960s in need for renovation in the city centre and in the residential areas. Moreover new enterprises tend to make an incoherent and inefficient use of the land where some of the deprived areas unused.
Getting to know the urban regeneration problems that other cities coming from convergence regions face and their potential solutions as well as cooperation with more developed and experienced cities from Western Europe was a positive outcome of the participation of Satu Mare in the RegGov network. The infrastruture is now in better shape also thanks to investments made in the last couple years.
Satu Mare County Intercommunity Development Association was established in 2015 in order to prepare, promote and implement projects for the development of the county in various areas: social services, health, education, sports, culture, infrastructure, environment, business environment, tourism, territorial planning, information technology etc. The Association has 59 public authorities as members, out of which the Satu Mare County, 5 towns and 53 communes.
