Santo Tirso

Besides its beautiful landscapes, Santo Tirso is well-known for the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture – MIEC. Created in the 90s, the open-air museum is a landmark in the national and international artistic scene and soon became a mandatory stop for those who enjoy art in public spaces. One of the most recent attractions of the city is the visitor’s centre of the museum. Opened in 2016 and designed by the Pritzker winners Eduardo Souto Moura and Álvaro Siza Vieira, over 50 thousand people already visited the new building.

In the last few years, Santo Tirso has become a more sustainable municipality, tourism has experience continued growth and the city has grown with it.
