"On 24 October the RegioStars 2009 Jury held their first meeting under the chairmanship of Mr Job Cohen, Mayor of Amsterdam. As a result of this meeting the jury decided on the 25 finalists of the RegioStars Awards granted by the European Commission.
RegioStars – The Awards for Innovative Projects – form part of the enhanced communication effort proposed in the Communication on Regions for Economic Change (COM(2006) 675). The objective of the RegioStars Awards is to identify good practices in regional development and to highlight original and innovative projects which could be attractive and inspiring to other regions. The finalists projects will subsequently be added to the searchable case studies database now available on the Regions for Economic Change pages on Inforegio website. This database (currently holding 120 projects) provides an in-depth analysis of selected projects, additional to the examples of other projects part-financed by EU cohesion policy which are listed under success stories. The RegioStars winners will be announced on 16 February 2009 during the Regions for Economic Change conference. The winners will receive a trophy awarded by the Commissioner of Regional Policy and the president of the jury. DG Regional Policy will also produce a film on the winning projects in categories 1 and 2 which they may use in publicising and disseminating their good practice. Read more:
