Regione Sicilia

Sicily is an autonomous region of Italy. Of all the regions of Italy, Sicily covers the largest land area at 25,708 square kilometres (9,926 sq mi) and currently has just over five million inhabitants. The overall objective of Sicily is to contribute to increasing and stabilising the rate of growth of the regional economy by creating conditions in the region which are more attractive to productive enterprises. Development must be sustainable with due regard paid to the environment and to social cohesion.Industry, made up in large part by small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs), requires input from research and innovation so that it can be more competitive. The region will also promote the production and useof renewable energy as well as energy efficiency.
The Sicily Region aims to improve its consolidated development model for a progressive recuperation of degraded and disused building heritage (with eco-cultural tourism purpose) linked with an encouragement of a possible coexistence between tourism entrepreneurial activities (hosting, entertainment, culture, advanced trade and services, swimming, yachting, etc.) and urban traditional activities (residency, traditional commerce and services, handicraft, social activities, etc.).
The Sicily Region is ready to offer the codification of methods and good practices in some themes like: multifunctional re-connection among neighbouring quarters with new employment creation; re-qualification of appreciated historic-architectural buildings for the experimentation of innovative models of eco-cultural tourism; integrated development of sectors like culture, environment, landscape, human typical activities coming from the territorial identity for a sustainable and durable tourism development; promotion of local economies and sustainable urban development, etc.
