Province Of Namur

Namur is a province of Wallonia, one of the three regions of Belgium. It borders on the Walloon provinces of Hainaut, Walloon Brabant, Liège and Luxembourg in Belgium and on France. Its capital is the city of Namur. It has an area of 3,664 km² and is divided into three administrative districts (the Arrondissements of Dinant, Namur and Philippeville) containing 38 local authorities.Namur is both the capital of the province of Namur and (since 1986) of Wallonia with a population of 107,178 inhabitants. Namur is an important commercial and industrial centre, located on the Walloon industrial backbone, the Sambre and Meuse valley. It produces machinery, leather goods, metals and porcelain. It is also an important railway junction situated on the north-south line between Brussels and Luxembourg City, and the east-west line between Lille  and Liège.
The general focus of the URBACT programme is on URBAN development. Climate change and the recent international financial crisis make important demands on the urban development of Namur. With the help of the URBACT programme Namur wants to adress:
•  how to help cities to joint European programmes;
•  how to allow different European funds to be complementary for a same project;
•  how cities can find the right partners for their European projects;
• the question if European funds a possible development tool for small cities.
All the projects developed in the municipalities of the Province of Namur, especially the “City Quality Plan” are projects which aim to face competition and financial crisis by offering economic animation action on a tourist level for example.
