A project about the citizens participation in the development of the future society.

Topics

  1. Spatial planning
  2. democracy
  3. public dialogue

Main policy issue to be addressed in relation to the selected topics

SPANDEM-LAB will work through transnational networking to exchange experiences for an expanded public dialogue on the development of future society, with groups that do not normally have a voice in these contexts. This exchange will lead to a European strategy for real and virtual dialogue with the citizens. The project aims to create a better balance between different parts of the society so that all groups, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity and nationality, religious affiliation, education, sexual orientation, health and physical functionality, etc. are given an opportunity to be heard in the development of future societies. A particular focus will be placed on children, young people and immigrants. SPANDEM-LAB is based on a model for teaching network characterized by a Socratic dialogue ; a dialogue between the parties with a focus on the curiosity to learn from each other. The project will also work with innovative teaching methods for fostering innovation skills ; that is, to teach how we can see new ideas and opportunities for development. In SPANDEM-LAB each partner in the project has its own operational case concerning citizens dialogue. This case may be the development or renovation of an existing neighborhood, the planning of new buildings or park environment, infrastructure development, etc. These cases will be discussed in various forms of workshops; benchmarking and knowledge sharing between the parties are key concepts in the project.

Useful Information

SPANDEM-LAB strives to establish a broad European partnership. We are looking for partners among cities, municipalities, regions, boroughs, universities etc. all over Europe. The output of the project will be a European development strategy for citizens dialogue, including all groups in the society. A strategy that can be adopted by regions and local communities all over Europe as an in-put in their work with the planning of the future society. The project is expected to have a time schedule for 30 months from start to finish. We hope to be able to start up SPANDEM-LAB in the autumn of 2019.

New information February 4, 2019: We are currently investigating to join together the SPANDEM-LAB with the InBetween project in one application.
