Inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable metropolitan areas.

The weakness of the Central Subregion area of the Silesian Voivodship is environmental degradation and excessive anthropopression in large parts of urban areas. The accumulation of mainly post-industrial degraded areas and unused socio-economic objects. The identified specific problems are: 1) occurrence of urban heat islands with a major impact on climate change, 2) threats to many natural species and biodiversity, 3) untapped natural potential of post-industrial areas, 4) lack of an integrated green-blue infrastructure management system, 5) the threat of civilization diseases among residents due to bad air quality, 6) uncontrolled management of rainwater, 7) inconsistent urban spatial planning in the region. Gathered information, accumulated on the management and communication integrated ecosystem platform on a metropolitan level, will allow planning and area managing. It will allow to implement activities targeted on problems solving: related to cities adaptation to climate change, building resilience to the negative effects, air quality in urban centers, spatial development, urban regeneration and urban space greening. Representatives of around 5 municipalities and counties from the metropolitan area (Integrated Territorial Investment Instrument) will participate in URBACT. Objective: to develop a set of integrated action plans for sustainable management of the metropolitan area in the field of blue and green infrastructure.
