Useful Information
Borgomanero is the most important urban center of the northern part of the province of Novara and extends for 32.36 sq. Km. The inhabitants are 21.719 (ISTAT 2018). The average altitude is 308 meters above sea level. The landscape is characterized by the Alps chain. It is located south of Lake Orta and south-west of Lake Maggiore, in the northern part of the Novara plain; it is crossed by the river Agogna that creeps between the hills of San Michele, Maggiate and Santa Cristina in the east and the hills of Vergano, Colombaro and Cureggio to the west.
The population is divided into the historic center of Borgomanero and the 5 main hamlets of Santa Cristina, Santo Stefano, Santa Croce, San Marco and Vergano. The city, as a whole, has a polycentric structure.
The urban layout of the historic center is built on the late medieval model of the crux viarum. It was a natural crossroads of the routes that led from Novara to the Orta Riviera and the Sempione, and from Turin and Valsesia to Lake Maggiore. Therefore the village of Borgomanero became a reference point for trade.
Nowadays Borgomanero is a modern town, but with a strong historical and cultural identity, that has about 600 commercial activities, 650 craft enterprises and 300 small and medium-sized industries.
