Paola
The Paola Corradino development will improve the offer for tourism through the provision of a range of resources reflecting the history and culture of the Barracks precinct. The development of a diverse product through the promotion of a cultural and sports site in the Inner Harbour Area together with improved marketing of the offer through promotion of the Barracks Museum more widely in Malta and overseas as a unique experience.
The ‘authentic’ restoration of the Barracks precinct has been identified as a museum complex, which retains its barracks identity. The story of the site should be highlighted through various interpretative panels within the remaining Wings. The overall development plan will concentrate on using advanced technologies in the field of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and waste production management. The development follows Local Plan parameters to restore derelict land and to conserve the Carbon Footprint. An integral part of the Planning process is the empowerment of local Neighbourhoods, catalysing a sense of belonging and civic pride through heritage, as part of the regeneration process.
The project will activate new transit modes although the site is already connected to a main thoroughfare and public transport node. Job activation for locals, connected to Sports and Culture, and sustaining the job market in the industrial sector of the adjacent area will be a priority.
