Opava

The , located on the river from which it takes its name, is the industrial and cultural centre of Silesia. It is located in the north-eastern part of the Czech Republic and its importance extends beyond the boundaries of the district. The role of Opava was more prominent in history than today as it was once the administration centre of Austrian Silesia (part of the Austrian Empire). The first written report about the colony located at the crossroads of trade routes and named after the river Opava dates from the year 1195
Education is a high priority for Opava and will increase in importance in the future. The challenge is to find a way to become the regional centre of knowledge with the ability to reach other regions and other European countries, whilst remaining the clean City its inhabitants can be proud of and visitors like to come back to.
