Friba's story continues

02 October 2018In January the Arrival Cities Network went to Vantaa (Finland) to undertake its 2nd Tranansational Workshop. During the three days’ workshop the delegation visited several projects developed by local NGOs in collaboration with the Municipality. One of those was the Neighbourhood Mother's project that we mentioned in the article “Nicehearts: Building a community of change agents”.
During our visit we met Friba, an Afghan lady who arrived in Finland as refugee in 2014. Friba shared with us her experience of moving to Finland and how the Neighbourhood mother’s project and Nicehearts Association has not only changed her life, but also helped her in integrating into the Finnish society. At the time Friba was looking for a job, in the meanwhile she was attending some training courses and collaborating as facilitator in the Neighbourhood mother’s project.
We recently got to know that she found a job, a very nice one that allows her to help people that are facing her same difficulties. She is working for a Finnish NGO as cultural mediator in supporting migrants that applied for asylum in Finland, but finally were not recognized as refugees and are in need of aid and shelter. Most of them come from Afghanistan, Kurdistan and Iraq, as she speaks Farsi and Dari, she is very much of help for them and for the organizations that provide support.
This is a really good opportunity for her to make available her knowledge and experience for those migrants and refugees that after many months/years waiting to be relocated, when finally arrive to their destination countries see their asylum requests denied and have no other place to go.
We are very happy about this good new and we wish to Friba all the best for her future.
