B.1. Understanding of integrated and sustainable urban development:
Since my PhD I've studied the relationships between urban and rural areas, especially focusing on the role of agriculture, food miles concept and city branding based on agriculture and food related lifestyles. I've published on these topics in international scientific journals. I'm currently involved in a Marie Curie project "645706-GRAGE-H2020-MSCA-RISE-2014", where I lead a WP on the relationship between urband development, food literacy and the role of elderly. Last year I've been involved in the Urbact "Gastronomic Cities" project as scientific and operative support to the town of Fermo (Italy).
B.2. Understanding of exchange and learning processes at transnational level:
During the last 6 years I've been the delegate for internationalisation and Erasmus programme at the Department of Education, Cultural Heritage and Tourism at University of Macerata. I've a deep experience concerning the Erasmus programme and I've taken part to several staff exchanges with colleagues coming from international universities. In 2014 I've been the ULSG facilitator for the Urbact project "Gastronomic Cities" and I've managed several staff exchanges for the professionals involved in this project.
B.3. Proficiency in English:
In 2003-2004 I've attended a MSc in Food Economics and Marketing at Reading University (UK). Then, I've published more than 40 papers on international journals and I'm teaching several courses in english in my University. During the last years I served as expert evaluator and consultant for the European Commission (DG Agri, DG Research, EACI and JRC). Furthermore, I'm serving as Managing Editor of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Review.

Expertise support to local authorities and other stakeholders in designing & delivering integrated and participatory policies

E.1. Knowledge on participatory methods and tools for co-production and implementation of local polices :
In http://gastronomiccities.org/ I've been ULSG coordinator in the town of Fermo. I've designed and applied some tools, as evidenced in the The URBACT II Local Support Group Toolkit. Cyclical planning model, stakeholder analysis, Stakeholders Importance/Influence matrix have been widely applied.
E.2. Knowledge on integrated approach for the design, delivering, monitoring and evaluation of urban strategies/policies:
Several tools for the design, delivering, monitoring and evaluation of urban strategies exist. The websites of a couple of well-recognized MSc in Urban Design and Planning can give an overview of the integrated methods applied: https://www.bartlett.ucl.ac.uk/planning/programmes/postgraduate/mscdiploma-udcp and http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/postgraduate/degrees?id=822&cw_xml=details.php
E.3. Awareness of the main policy and funding schemes for sustainable urban development at EU and national level:
Together with URBACT III, the programme on Smart Cities https://eu-smartcities.eu/ , some calls on Horizon 2020, Regional Development programmes and Rural Development Programmes (for certain cities embedded in rural areas) can provide funding for sustainable urban development
E.4. Ability to understand specific local situations and adapt tools and content to different local realities:
In "Gastronomic Cities" project I have stressed the role that University can have in facilitating and supporting the cohesion among different stakeholders. Through a Problem Based Learning approach, I've involved foreigner colleagues and local students to interview local stakeholders in order to better clarify problems and effectively adopt different activities. Findings reveal that processes enacted by the University's action research approach are leading to an actual co-creation of the “Fermo City of Gastronomy” brand by a multitude of stakeholders, which are facilitated in this experience by researchers and students presence
Summary Expertise:
I've been recently involved in the Urbact project "Gastronomic Cities" where I have served as facilitator for the ULSG. I've tried to facilitate the contact between local stakeholders and University students' according to a Problem Based Learning approach. The cross-fertilisation and the new views of young students can be important elements of an innnovative urban design and planning.
