This year in autumn the City of Regensburg, a German medieval town that has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2006, will host the OWHC Northwest European Regional Conference.

"From September 16 to 18, members of the Organization of World Heritage Cities are invited to meet in the historic Salt Barn, one of the city's most significant buildings, which is located close to the river Danube and the famous old Stone Bridge. The selected conference theme 'Earth, Wind, Water, Fire - Environmental Challenges to Urban World Heritage' fits perfectly into the concept of the United Nation's 'International Year of Planet Earth'.
Within different thematic sessions dedicated to the topics 'Earth', 'Wind' 'Water' and 'Fire', experts and site managers will present case studies on how natural hazards and environmental conditions compromise the cultural heritage values of historic cities and discuss about innovative protective measures and strategies.
