After three years of work and exchanges, the ROMA-NET Project is coming to a close. Its Final Conference is taking place in Hungary, in the cities of Budapest and Nagykallo, on January 15-17 2013.

The ROMA-NET Project
ROMA-NET is a transnational partnership of ten European cities, from eight different countries, committed to improve the social inclusion and community integration of the Roma population living in their cities.

Despite efforts at local, national and European levels Roma populations continue to face high levels of social exclusion and poverty. Partners of the project believed that integration of Roma populations is a key factor in a cohesive society, as well as in delivering the goals of the Lisbon Strategy. The Roma-Net partners worked on a united desire to share expertise and to spread good practices in the hope that it would improve local policy development and deliver capabilities for stronger community cohesion between Roma and their neighbouring communities accross the whole citiy.

The ROMA-NET Final Conference

Although the Roma populations in the ROMA-NET cities vary considerably in size, the partners now recognise the core similarities and challenges that cities are presented with but also the significant differences and city specific issues that exist. ROMA-NET partners fully understand the critical and central role that cities have to play if Roma inclusion is to move from a concept to a functioning reality.

The ROMA-NET project final conference will take place on January 15-17 in Budapest, Hungary, with a partner visit to Nagykálló, Hungary.
