10 February 2015On January 10 2013 the LINKS Partners will be invited by the URBAN Intergroup in the European Parliament, to illustrate the outcomes of the Network's activities.
The LINKS Project
The LINKS Project, led by the city of Bayonne in France, gathered nine cities from across Europe. It focused on the challenges met by historical centres and how they could integrate the sustainable urban model.
The project aimed to reconcile patrimonial and environmental qualities, to get a sustainable and desirable housing environment within the very heart of cities. The nine cities involved tried to turn their historical cities into attractive dynamic residential areas, without reneging on the architectural identity and cultural heritage.
The main challenge of such an initiative is to improve the quality of life in old centres, creating a comfortable, affordable and sustainable housing area, while at the same time maintaining equilibrium between preservation requirements and modernisation needs.
The LINKS Project Final Conference
The final conference of LINKS co-organized by the URBAN Intergroup will be the opportunity to finalise and valorise the efforts of the network, illustrate findings and channel policy recommendations. It will be held in Brussels, Belgium on January 10 2013.
