The first of the Call 2 URBACT project final conferences took place on 4 October in London. The Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe (EVUE) network presented the learning over the past three years about electro-mobility strategies in part the cities. Over 60 people attended the conference, many from Local Support Groups in partner cities, from London boroughs and mobility agencies.

The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Angela Harvey, hosted a cocktail reception in the evening to celebrate EVUE.

During the morning session the story of EVUE was told, with photomontages and feedback from the host of each of the EVUE site visits. This was interspersed with four presentations of the thematic reports produced to document EVUE results, representing the main tools available to cities to boost electric vehicles: Awareness Raising, Procurement, Infrastructure, and Business Models.

The afternoon session featured some of the EVUE successes, awards and films, followed by a panel discussion focused on how future EU policy can support electro-mobility in cities. Some of the key messages were that cities need to find the right strategies so that electric vehicles are integrated into multimodal transport solutions for urban sustainability. A focus on municipal fleets and logistics companies can help bring vehicles in volume.

Adele Bucella represented the URBACT Secretariat at the event : “The EVUE conference was very interactive, with participation of all the partners and all speaking about the project and not just about their own city - a real feeling of a partnership working together and learning from each other.  It was also great to hear from the private sector, who had found involvement in URBACT EVUE very useful”.

All EVUE final reports are available on EVUE’s minisite.
