Pyrgos

Pyrgos is a city of Western Peloponnese and capital of the Prefecture of Ilia. The total population of the Municipality is 50.681 residents. The city of Pyrgos is 4 km from the sea, 19 km from Ancient Olympia and 315 from Athens. The economic structure of the Municipality of Pyrgos , is mostly based in agriculture ( mainly crop production and fishery ) and secondly in tourism services. Agricultural products of excellent quality are produced in the area : wine, raisins, olive oil, oranges, watermelons and "feta" cheese, which have all been certified for their uniqueness from the E.U. The organizational structure of the Municipality of Pyrgos is based on the co-ordination of operation of 16 Municipal Apartments. Today we find in development the project " Kallikrates". It is a project of conjunction of Municipalities in Greece. According to it, the Municipality of Pyrgos will join other three smaller municipalities. Thus, as an organization, it will be strengthened, acquiring more financial resources and better organizational structures.

The Municipality of Pyrgos needs to acquire knowledge from the organization based on the organization and operation of relevand bodies in other European countries.

We want to improve the city's extroversion , so there is a need for convergence with other european partners in order to implement common practical solutions to common problems that we are facing.

At last, there is a need for funding of baeline studies which will serve in the development of the municipal entrepreneurship.
