Sacele

The city of , with 32.288 inhabitants, is part of the Brasov Metropolitan Area. Sacele has a long historical tradition as an essential economic and commercial centre, thanks to its strategic location at the crossroads of the main commercial routes. Sacele is a city that has been developed on a longitudinal axis: around the main road that crosses the city, the national road DN1A, crowded with trucks and cars. The municipality of Sacele has conceived a Long Term Development Strategy with all actors involved with the increase of the economical and social levels: local authorities, local industry and citizens. Moreover, Sacele also must take part in the development plan for the Brasov metropolitan area, where Sacele should play a role as an independent city, with its own identity, but also as part of the metropolitan area. The main priorities concerning the themes of NeT-TOPIC that Sacele would like to deal are: public transportation service (organisation and operation) in metropolitan areas; Roma ethnic integration as part of the urban transformation processes in the communities of the metropolitan areas; public-private partnership to manage the public assets (best practice and successful projects and know-how); and small and medium industrial parks in the communities integrated in the metropolitan areas (how to plan, to support and to control the industrial development in the metropolitan areas).

Sacele has a long historic tradition as an essential economic and commercial centre, a tradition going back many years back in history, thanks to its strategic location at the crossroads of the main commercial routes. Sacele is a city that has been developed on its longitudinal axis. The main road that crosses Sacele, a national road called DN1A is daily crowded with trucks and cars.

The municipality of Sacele has conceived a Long Term Development Strategy with all factors involved into its economical and social increasing level: local authorities, local industry and citizens. The LTDS has been approved by a Local Council Decision and is a complex document that foresees the means for a sustainable development of Sacele.

The most important issues from the municipality point of view concern physical and social matters. The physical matter that concerns the City Hall is regarding Sacele’s ring road, waste water net, public lightning, urban transport and urban streets that need rehabilitation.

The main vulnerable domains  in development area of the city were as follows:

  • Transport infrastructure: lack of Sacele’s ring road; need of roads rehabilitation and to improve conditions for local public transport
  • Environment infrastructure: lack of selective centres for waste, lack of green spaces, lack of waste water net for almost 70% of the city
  • Culture/ entertainment: lack of a location for specific activities, unexplored opportunities for tourism development
  • Social issues : the problems inside Garcin neighbourhood (roma population) and lack of social housing
  • It must also be implemented a development plan for the metropolitan area, where Sacele city should play a role as an independent city, with its own identity, but also as a part of this metropolitan area.

The main priorities concerning themes of NeT-TOPIC are:

1. Public transportation service (organization and operation) in the metropolitan areas

2.Roma ethnic integration as part of the urban transformation process in the communities of the metropolitan areas

3. Public-private partnership to manage the public assets (best practice and successful projects, and/or know-how)

4.Small and medium industrial parks in the communities integrated in the metropolitan areas (how to plan, to support and to control the industrial development in the metropolitan areas)
