Baena Job Shadowing in Braga - blog entry
Edited on
17 November 2020At the beginning of the year before the pandemic started, representatives of Baena went to Braga to see how on a daily basis NGO's in cooperation with the City Hall implement their projects involving residents. See how their visit went and what interesting things they were able to see and learn.
MEETING WITH BRAGAHABIT
During the first day the city of Braga was presented so that we were able to understand the project that Bragahabit runs in the housing area and also its legal framework the "Law of supported rental ". Different support projects were presented: Supported Leasing, Subleasing, and Shared Residence, among others. We also saw the models of the project for the renewal of Santa Tecla and das Enguardas neighborhoods.
VISIT TO SANTA TECLA AND DAS ENGUARDAS NEIGHBOURHOODS
VISIT TO SOME RENOVATED FLATS
VISIT TO THE CIVIC CENTRE OF SANTA TECLA
The next day we started in Civic Centre. In this visit we received information about the projects in which the city works with public funds and in collaboration with NGOs and volunteers: prevention of school absenteeism, with the programme "wake up call at home service” for which they received an innovation prize in 2013; programme of voluntary work "3D paths"; programme for the creation of a group of active young people from the community, using the figure of the mediator; project "Bout campo" aimed at the training of Romany trainers for Romany ethnic groups; creation of a Romany women's football team; programme of adult training, etc.
SHELTER HOUSES FOR VICTIM FAMILIES OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
The last phase of emergency support, where women who are victims of gender violence live together for a period of time until they become fully autonomous in terms of employment, social integration and housing. We could not enter the houses due to the high level of privacy of this type of projects.
VISIT TO THE CENTRE/LAB OF CULTURAL, URBAN AND SOCIAL INNOVATION
The last day of our job shadowing adventure was devoted to the activities of The Centre/Lab of cultural, urban and social innovation.
In this visit we observed the space destined to projects of Innovation in Cultural, Urban and Social matters. It is located in a renovated building, at the historical center of Braga, with three floors, and each Lab is placed on one floor. The social theme is located on the third floor and at present the staff is working on the evaluation of the applications they have received for social projects to be supported.
It was also during this visit that Daniel explained his project "Rewrite my neighborhood" that for about a year he has been running with the involvement of the neighbours themselves and mainly aimed at gypsy children. This project consists of four phases, in each one of them several activities/workshops have been carried out: music, photography, creation of a children's book. All of that has been compiled in a printed book that was provided to us.
