Generic Skills
B.1. Understanding of integrated and sustainable urban development:
I have a PhD in energy and climate change studies and for the past ten years I have been researching low carbon energy systems at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. Through this role role I have published several journal articles on reducing the environmental impacts of energy systems and have also produced industry reports on decarbonising electricity distribution networks, energy storage systems and district energy. I have worked on two whole system energy projects that combined engineering, environmental and social science approached. More recently with my team I have produced a methodology to translate global climate change targets to the city scale carbon budgets and have supported local governments in developing new policy frameworks based on a local carbon budget.
B.2. Understanding of exchange and learning processes at transnational level:
My research group is very active in transnational knowledge exchange. The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in Manchester is a highly international group with nine nationalities represented across our team of 30 people with active projects with partners in Europe, South-east Asia and Southern Africa. In 2013 I participated in a research exchange with the Institute for Global Environmental Studies in Japan, spending three months working there to share learning on European and Japanese approaches to developing low carbon energy scenarios.
B.3. Proficiency in English:
English is my first language. I have written a PhD and several journal publication in English, and have presented orally at academic conferences, industry and public events in English

Summary Thematic expertise:
The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research has 20 years of experience in policy relevant research on climate change. In my role as a knowledge transfer fellow I have supported translating academic research on carbon budgets for use by organisations and local governments wanting to better understand and contextualise their response to climate change. I have led engagement with local authorities including supporting the adoption of a carbon budget approach and associated policies in Greater Manchester, and a new climate change policy framework in the city of Manchester and have engaged with over 100 local authorities in the UK and Sweden as we have expanded the application of our research through online tools (www.carbonbudget.manchester.ac.uk), workshops, policy forums, webinars and social media.
