Oeste CIM

The Inter-municipal Community of Oeste (OesteCIM) is a region of beautifully preserved landscapes, boasting bright and mild climates. It is a place where the coastline and the countryside are closely connected, and among which stand beautiful white villages. Lying on the west coast of Portugal, the region covers a total area of 2,219 km2.

Oeste is made up by many municipalities: Alcobaça, Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Bombarral, Cadaval, Caldas da Rainha, Lourinhã, Nazaré, Óbidos, Peniche, Sobral de Monte Agraço e Torres Vedras. These municipalities are united by a common cultural heritage, cemented by centuries of Vine culture and a very strong attachment to the land and the sea.  This Western Region corresponds to the Portuguese Territorial Unit Level III (NUT III) West and is bordered to the north with the Region of Leiria, east with the Lezíria do Tejo Region and south with Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The resident population is about 360,000 inhabitants, with asymmetric distribution across the territory; 64% of the region's population is concentrated in four municipalities (Torres Vedras (22%), Alcobaça (15%), Caldas da Rainha (14%) and Alenquer (12%)).

The proximity to Lisbon and the strategic situation in connection with other urban centers of reference has been the basis of the development of the Oeste Region. The motorway A8, in conjunction with IP6, A1, A23 (connection to Spain) make access to the Oeste extremely easy and fast.  At the same time, the ease of access to the international airports of Lisbon and Porto, facilitates the connection to the Oeste Portugal Region to all major centers in Portugal and Europe.

Tourism is an area with strong tradition in the Oeste Portugal Region, with  specific products already highly associated to this territory – historical heritage, sun and beaches, resorts, health and welfare, waves and water sports, gastronomy – which today constitute brand images a differentiated and concentrated supply.
