Strengthening of NGOs is one of the most important tasks of the URBACT Good Practice - the Riga NGO House. The NGO House organises informative and practical seminars for the representatives of NGOs for free, offering an opportunity to get new, useful knowledge on various topics, which are crucial for the operation and development of NGOs.

Seminars at Riga NGO House

The training year at the NGO House in Riga finished in the middle of June, coinciding with the beginning of the holiday period, with two seminars. The weekly seminars and informative events will restart at the NGO House in September.

In the training period from September 2018 until the middle of June 2019, 40 seminars took place in the NGO House, 6 of which were informative events devoted to various funding programmes available for NGOs. Almost 600 NGO members, employees and volunteers attended the seminars.

The representatives of NGOs had the opportunity to gain diverse knowledge on the following topics: promotion of NGO work and building a public image, challenges in communication, team building in an organisation, topicalities of accounting, record keeping and legal issues, creating a photo report, project management, the role of etiquette in communication, media environment, personal data protection, public speech, management of personal energy, financial literacy and others.

Also 3 seminar series took place; two of those were devoted to project management and one to public speech. Seminars focusing on the hot topic of personal data protection had to be organised 3 times due to public demand.

When NGOs apply for the seminars, they are asked to outline training topics they are interested in. These suggestions are used for planning the content of training. Also, the NGOs can suggest lecturers and trainers they would like to hear and the NGO House takes these suggestions into account.

Knowledgeable members – strong NGOs!
